ABOUT THE ARTIST

Inspired by landscapes, North Carolina-based artist Jim Morgan is drawn to rural settings, most of which have been altered by agriculture, progress, and the span of time. Studies of light and natural succession, interpretations of roadside fields feel perfectly composed, and yet just a season or two away from being reclaimed by the surrounding forest.

Whenever possible, the artist prefers to work outdoors and later re-works pieces back in the studio using notes and site photography for reference. Often, he works from the same sites again and again, revisiting at different times of the day and year with a camera and sketchbook. The artist is also captivated by organic forms when placed out of typical context. Originally, these other works were just quick studies until a client asked him to create a larger-scale version. He was happy with the results and has continued creating these more abstract forms, in addition to landscapes.

His artwork is part of private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. and Canada, and has been featured in print publications, blogs, and on book covers.
